How to distinguish between forged grinding media balls and cast grinding balls

Jun 20, 2019

Grinding balls are divided into three categories, casting grinding balls, forging grinding media balls, and spheroidal casting balls. However, ductile iron grinding balls are rarely used, and forged grinding media balls and cast grinding balls are more common. Only steel balls made by forging are called forged grinding media balls; casting balls are required to be produced by casting and melting.

The forging grinding media ball has a small breaking rate, while the casting grinding ball has a large breaking rate. In general, the grinding ball breaking rate is 3%, and the forging grinding media ball is at 1%. Due to the small breaking rate, the grinding machine is increased in powder yield and reduced. The cost of mineral processing increases the efficiency of mill production.

Since the metallographic structure of our forged grinding media ball is a fine needle-shaped martensite structure with high hardness and the same wear resistance as the cast grinding ball, the price of the forged grinding media ball is much lower than that of the cast grinding ball. Due to the difference in materials and processing techniques, the casting grinding balls have poor hardenability inside and outside the heat treatment, and the hardness of the inside and outside of the steel balls produced by the processing differs greatly.www.grindingballsmedia.com
