Hardenability and Impact Toughness of Ball Mill Grinding Steel Ball

Mar 28, 2020

Ball mill steel ball is an important basic part of the ball mill and an indispensable accessory for the ball mill. The performance of the steel ball directly affects the use performance. Here we introduce the hardenability and impact toughness of the steel ball.

Hardenability: refers to the depth of the hardened layer under certain conditions.

Hardenability: refers to the hardness achieved by the martensite structure formed after quenching, which mainly depends on the carbon content of the martensite.

A1 is the phase change start line or phase change end line when the heating or cooling rate is extremely slow.

Ac1 refers to the starting line of phase transition at a certain heating rate.

Ar1 is the end line of phase transition at a certain cooling rate

Decomposition of chemical heat treatment: the penetrant molecules in the medium are decomposed to form active atoms that can penetrate the elements

Absorption by chemical heat treatment: refers to the process that active atoms are absorbed by the metal surface under the premise that the infiltrating element can form a solid solution with a certain solubility with the base metal.

Diffusion of chemical heat treatment: It means that the active atoms are absorbed by the metal surface and a concentration gradient is formed between the surface and the core. At a certain temperature, the infiltrating atoms are driven to the inside by the concentration gradient and diffuse to the inside to obtain a certain depth of infiltration.

Carbon potential (chemical heat treatment): refers to the carbon content of the steel surface when the carburizing atmosphere and the surface of the steel reach dynamic equilibrium. The carbon potential reflects the strength of the furnace gas carburizing ability.

Strength: refers to the resistance of metal materials to damage (excessive plastic deformation or fracture) under static load. Because the load acts in the form of tension, compression, bending, shear, etc., the strength is also divided into tensile strength, compressive strength, bending strength, shear strength and so on. There is often a certain relationship between various strengths. Generally, tensile strength is used as the most basic strength index in use.

Plasticity: refers to the ability of a metal material to undergo plastic deformation (permanent deformation) without damage under the load.

It can be clearly seen from the chemical composition that the carbon content is increasing, which accordingly increases the hardness and wear resistance of the steel balls, ensuring the hardenability of the round steel, and the round steel with better hardenability guarantees the inside and outside of the steel balls. Consistency of hardness, so as to ensure the strong point-to-point impact of the steel ball on the ore in the ore dressing and grinding operation, and even in the semi-self-grinding machine, to ensure that the steel ball is not broken and round, and the grinding effect is better.
